FAQs

What is Fagan Technique?

Fagan Technique™ is a teaching method of Garth Fagan Dance, created by company founder and distinguished artistic director emeritus, Garth Fagan. Since the company’s inception in 1970, this distinctive vocabulary has evolved alongside Garth's choreographic vision, seamlessly integrating elements from Post-modern, Modern, Ballet, Afro-Caribbean, and African dance styles and techniques. Fagan Technique™ has captivated audiences worldwide, with over 100 million individuals experiencing this movement technique through Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway and via national and international tours of Garth Fagan Dance. Recently, Garth Fagan Dance was honored with induction into the "Archives of the Library of Congress," recognizing the man and company’s groundbreaking contributions to 20th-century dance as an exemplar of rule-breaking experimentation and postmodern accomplishment.

Are classes offered all year round?

Our classes are offered throughout the entire school year.

We have a spring, fall, and winter semester and during the summer, we have our Summer Movement Institute (SMI). An in-depth program dedicated to learning the Fagan Technique. These classes are located under the EDUCATION tab.

Does my child need special dance attire? Shoes?

Nope! Classes are taught barefoot. As for dance attire, your child does not need to wear leotards and tights. At Garth Fagan Dance School we support individuality. Whatever dance attire makes the child happy as long as they can move in it! Go ahead and rock colorful leggings!
